Underwriting Guidelines
The following procedures & guidelines are to be used when submitting new business to Halcyon Underwriters. Please speak to a production underwriter regarding questions or market availability.
SUBMITTING NEW BUSINESS:
- Fax or E-mail entire submission, including completed ACORD applications, to Halcyon Production Underwriter.
- Please include cover letter with contact name, e-mail address, phone, need by date, etc.
- Please also include the Halcyon checklist with items included in the submission.
- Make sure to include various information as needed: Driver info, MVR’s, Financials, etc.
- Make sure to include applicant’s brochures, website address, marketing materials, etc.
- Prior coverage info (including carrier, loss summary and premiums paid) may not be required but are always helpful. Please speak to underwriter.
QUOTE PROCESS:
- Halcyon will market your account to our carriers to insure that we get the best quote possible.
- We may require additional information during the quote process.
- The more information we have, the easier it is to “sell” the account to our carriers.
- Turn-around-time on quotes depends on several factors: size of the account, type of risk, quality of submission, in-house rating authority, etc.
- Because we work primarily with standard markets, we look to write good quality business.
- Like you, we are not here to “practice quote”!
SELECT UNIT (under $20,000 premium):
- Some risks may require prior coverage and hard copy loss runs.
- Contractors and Restaurants usually require 3-year loss information.
- Quote turn-around time will depend on need by date and information provided.
MIDDLE MARKET (over $20,000 premium):
- Most accounts will require hard copy loss runs, etc.
- 45 day lead-time is generally preferred (speak to U/W if account is a “rush”).
- Many markets require a pre-inspection of the account before offering a quote.
PERSONAL LINES:
- Homeowners submissions require ACORD app and one page homeowners supplemental.
- Auto submissions require ACORD app and all driver MVR’s.
